SUMMARY:Alteration
DESCRIPTION:How do our lives intertwine? How do we manage to prosperous balances? What happens when they break down? Alteration addresses the transformations that punctuate our lives and our abilities to influence our own destiny and that of others. Aly Keita depicts an oscillating humanity on an intimate and societal level\, between stability and uncertainty\, anchoring and uprooting\, change and resistance\, renewal and repetition. The relationship with the other and the complexity of ties lead to the need to hear and rebuild our relationship with ourselves and with our environment. Exploring the meaning of relationships in our society in a wide-ranging way\, both interpersonal relationships and those with other-than-human beings\, this work opens the way to the construction of possible new links that are formed through ecological and spiritual dimensions. Here\, life takes the form of a cycle of transformations. Memories of past experiences and scars – in other words\, alteration – are transmuted into a vital breath through reactivating movements\, both individual and collective\, that revitalize our bodies and rekindle our inner power. \n\n\n\nThis show includes the use of smoke\, which may persist throughout the performance. In addition\, vibrating sounds and low frequencies are used\, which may cause physical sensations. Please take this into account if you are sensitive to these effects. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis multi-arts work is as much a choreographic piece as a circus piece\, a musical work as well as a work of visual art. Martin Bellemare (Note d’intention)\n\n\n\n\n\nKira is a word in Sousou\, the language of Guinea\, meaning “path”. It evokes the idea that life is a path where we walk\, gather\, and unite. Founded in 2023\, Kira Arts creates staged works that bring together different artistic practices on equal footing and promote intercultural dialogue. In this way\, they cultivate an inclusive and diverse environment based on principles of knowledge sharing and collaboration. Their artistic approach focuses on mediation as a field for research and creation. When selecting collaborators\, it is essential that each artist possess a deep understanding of the body\, rhythm\, and movement. The uniqueness of each body and individual is a tool that can enrich shared creation. Their approach is to invite artists to embody the multiple interpretations of a single event.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Brett Hansen's Confluence
DESCRIPTION:Presented In Collaboration With \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA six-person ensemble featuring some of Canada’s greatest Jazz musicians \n\n\n\nPossessing “one of the purest sounds on the six string” (The Listening Sessions)\, guitarist-composer Brett Hansen has boldly stepped out from his work as one of Canada’s first-call session musicians with a striking debut album of his own\, Confluence. Hansen’s compositions showcase his fleet technical skill and cinematic sonic palate\, but perhaps most notable is his emotional and dynamic capacity to tell stories without words. Influences from his work in folk\, rock\, jazz\, and orchestral ensembles shine across the album\, which has remained on the international jazz charts since its release in 2024 and has garnered critical acclaim\, drawing comparison to Pat Metheny and John Abercrombie. Brett Hansen has studied with the likes of Mike Stern\, Julian Lage\, Oz Noy\, Matthew Stevens\, Nir Felder\, Jim Head\, and Rez Abassi. He performs regularly as a part of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra\, has toured internationally through Asia\, Europe\, and Canada\, and has performed on hundreds of recordings across genres with some of Canada’s finest musicians across many genres of music. Without a doubt\, Brett Hansen a guitarist “deserving of your attention” (The Intelligencer). \n\n\n\nBrett Hansen’s Confluence is a live show experience that brings together folk-inspired sensitivity\, muscular rock phrases\, and Latin rhythms to conjure a sound both atmospheric and powerful\, while showcasing a six-person ensemble featuring some of Canada’s finest jazz musicians: Mallory Chipman on vocals\, Luis Tovar on percussion\, Murray Wood on bass\, Joel Jeschke on drums\, and Chris Pruden on keyboards.  \n\n\n\nDrawing comparison to the likes of Pat Metheny and John Abercrombie\, Brett’s skills as a guitarist are only met by his expressivity as a composer\, weaving together years of influence and experience from his work as a side person with award-winning and internationally touring ensembles across genres\, and resulting in a sound that is simultaneously sophisticated and raw. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTender yet fierce… relatable yet fresh… Confluence showcases Brett’s focus on lyricism in both writing and performance while showcasing traits of modern jazz/improvised music with contemporary production techniques. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Hughes
DESCRIPTION:Presented As part of the Northern Spark Emerging Artist Series\n\n\n\nA Collaboration Between NACC and The UNDerground\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHughes is the folk‑alt‑country project of Yellowknife musician Benji Straker. Blending folk\, alt‑country\, and indie sensibilities\, Hughes creates music that is honest\, atmospheric\, and deeply personal. The project draws inspiration from the stark beauty of the North and the quiet complexities of lived experience\, offering listeners space to reflect\, breathe\, and connect. \n\n\n\nWith textured arrangements\, intimate lyrics\, and a grounded sense of place\, Hughes crafts soundscapes that feel both expansive and close to home. The self‑titled debut full‑length album\, released in July 2025\, captures the heart of the project’s sound — vulnerable\, spacious\, and rooted in the lived‑in details of northern life and relationships. \n\n\n\nMust be 19+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Degrees of Separation
DESCRIPTION:An Adaptation By \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTinged with Alison McCreesh’s signature blend of humour and humanity\, Degrees of Separation is a story of the North and transformation. Following Alison’s personal journey from young adulthood to motherhood\, the piece explores themes of connection\, change\, and anxiety told through the unique lens of a Northern life. \n\n\n\nThe Tin Can Collective’s new staged adaptation brings McCreesh’s story to life\, celebrating lived experiences of the North and the impact of female friendships during these pivotal years\, and featuring a score composed by Yellowknife’s own Grace Clark.  \n\n\n\nFormed in 2024\, The Tin Can Collective is an emerging multidisciplinary performance collective\, guided by new ideas\, connection\, and community-driven storytelling based in the NWT.  The Tin Can Collective was formed by Gwenan Guillas-Letain\, Kacie Hall\, and Sophie Rivers.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe tension between free-spirited off-grid living and prosaic adult responsibility runs through Alison McCreesh’s tender and loving ode to the people and landscapes of the far North. Joe Sacco\, Paying the Land on “Degrees of Separation: A Decade North of 60” by Alison McCreesh\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Alison McCreesh \n\n\n\nAlison is a Yellowknife-based graphic novelist\, illustrator and fibre artist. Over almost two decades in the North\, Alison has enjoyed numerous opportunities to travel the Arctic and Sub-Arctic – experiences which have greatly influenced her creative work. Since 2015\, Alison has published three graphic novels\, all of which explore aspects of contemporary day-to-day life north of the 60th parallel.  Her most recent book\, ‘Degrees of Separation: A Decade North of 60’\, was released in April 2024 and was named one of the Best Canadian Comics of 2024 by CBC Books.  It also earned Alison invitations to be a guest author at several literary festivals such as the Vancouver Writers Festival\, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and the Stockholm International Comics Festival. Most recently\, “Degrees of Separation” has been nominated for a 2025 Eisner Award in the “Best Graphic Memoir” category. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe staged adaptation of Degrees of Separation is produced with support from the GNWT Arts Council. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Change Makers - A Choir Concert
DESCRIPTION:In an ever-changing world\, our choirs sing about Change Makers: the people and things that shape change around us. The music is diverse\, inspired by a world premiere performance of  “A Pine Point Story\,” written for us by Canadian choral composer Stuart Beatch. The song commemorates the poignant and powerful legacy of Everett Klippert and his place in Northern history. The Yellowknife Choral Society celebrates this and other powerful change makers in performances by Fireweed Children’s Chorus\, Aurora Chorealis\, and special guests: the Yellowknife Youth Choir and SkyFire Taiko. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Crazy For You
DESCRIPTION:Ptarmigan Ptheatrics is proud to present Crazy For You\, a fun for the whole family musical that is sure to have audiences laughing and their toes tapping. There is something for everyone in this high-energy\, dance filled show! Featuring the talents of over 35 Yellowknife performers\, we can’t wait to share this story with you.  \n\n\n\nA zany rich-boy-meets-hometown-girl romantic comedy\, Crazy For You tells the story of young New York banker Bobby Child\, who is sent to Deadrock to foreclose on a rundown theatre. In Deadrock\, Bobby falls for spunky Polly Baker\, the theatre owner’s daughter. But Polly takes an instant dislike to the city slicker\, so Bobby vows – through cunning\, razzmatazz\, and a hilarious case of mistaken identity – to win Polly’s heart and save the theatre. Memorable Gershwin tunes from the score include “I Got Rhythm\,” “Naughty Baby\,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me\,” “Embraceable You\,” “But Not for Me\,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Juliet & Romeo
DESCRIPTION:This Lost Dog show reveals the real story of Romeo and Juliet. It turns out they didn’t die in a tragic misunderstanding; they grew up and lived happily ever after. \n\n\n\nWell\, they lived.  \n\n\n\nNow in their 40s and struggling with a mid-life crisis\, they feel constantly mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by the pressures of being the poster couple for romantic love. They decide to confront their current struggles by staging a performance about themselves. Their therapist told them it was a terrible idea.  \n\n\n\nWith Lost Dog’s blend of dance\, theatre\, and comedy\, this duet directed by Olivier Award nominated Ben Duke takes on our cultural obsession with youth and our inevitable issues with longevity.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nComic awkwardness tipping into vulnerable emotion is a hallmark of Ben Duke’s work. The Independent\n\n\n\n\n\nBen is Artistic Director and co-founder of Lost Dog. He trained at Guildford School of Acting\, the London Contemporary Dance School and has a first-class degree in English Literature from Newcastle University. His work is an attempt to reconcile those three subjects. \n\n\n\nIn 1997 Ben saw Alain Platel’s show Bernadetje at the Newcastle Playhouse and has since been trying to recreate the feeling of confusion and joy he had while watching that piece in his own artistic practice. Most of his artistic output has been within Lost Dog. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:
