Hughes is a Yellowknife, Canada-based band weaving together folk, alt-country, and indie rock into songs that are honest, atmospheric, and emotionally resonant. Originally the solo project of norther musician, Benji Straker, the band’s music reflects both the stark beauty of the North and the quiet complexity of personal experience, offering listeners a space to reflect and connect.
With textured arrangements, intimate lyrics, and a grounded sense of place, Hughes creates soundscapes that feel both expansive and close to home. Their self-titled debut full-length album, released in July 2025, captures the heart of their sound — vulnerable, spacious, and rooted in the lived-in details of northern life and relationships.
