The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre recognizes the traditional territory of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis
across the six regions of the Northwest Territories.
The Northwest Territories is a vast and sparsely populated territory. It is a culturally and artistically diverse region encompassing over 1.3 million square KM and a population of nearly 45,000, with Yellowknife as its capital city. Recognizing what makes the NWT unique is essential during NACC’s annual season planning. The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre is the only fully equipped live performance theatre in the Northwest Territories.
Through NACC’s community outreach programming, audiences from across the NWT are able to access unique and diverse performances. NACC tours performances to six communities annually, including Inuvik, Hay River, Fort Smith, Norman Wells, Fort Simpson, and Yellowknife. This experience also allows the presenting artists, many of whom have never travelled to Canada’s Arctic, with an opportunity to be profoundly and creatively impacted by the North and performing in its intimate venues.

NACC’s outreach programming also includes school presentations, workshops, and more – all of which are designed and executed uniquely to the NWT region they take place in. The approach taken for each region is different and planned in collaboration with the participating community.
NACC collaborates with artists and arts organizations across the territory to create a national stage for the performing arts in the North, and in turn acts as a catalyst for performance, innovation, and learning. The organization has been at the forefront of youth artistic programming and education, professional artist development, and creation in the North. We are proud to be a hub for creativity in the NWT.
