Northern Arts and Cultural Centre 40th Anniversary Showcase
December 7 @ 7:30 pm
NACC’s 40th Anniversary will be a celebration of exceptional talent and dynamic northern art forms from across the broad expanse of Denendeh. From the great fiddling dynasties flowing deep and swiftly like the great Deh Cho river, to the shining lights of Indigenous theatre born and raised on this very stage, the show will celebrate some of the major milestones and remember some of the brilliant and cutting edgeperformers who have shared their art and found their spotlight at NACC. For one halcyon night, community groups and northern stars will join together to lift up the memories and raise their voices in a joyful chorus. Like a giant drum dance, or a triumphant handgame, celebrating 40 years of the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre will be a jubilant evening not to be missed.
More information will be provided closer to the performance date.

Curating The Evening
If you’re from the North, Leela Gilday’s music is home. If you’ve never been, it will take you there. Born and raised in the Northwest Territories, she writes about the people and the land that created her. The power in her voice conveys the depth of her feelings of love and life in a rugged environment and vibrant culture, as if it comes straight from that earth. Leela’s family is from Délįne on the shore of Great Bear Lake and her rich vocals dance across the rhythmic beats of traditional Dene drumming as smoothly as a bass line onstage the largest venues in the country.
To say Reneltta Arluk is a leader in Canadian theatre is an understatement. She is an Inuvialuit, Cree, Dene from the Northwest Territories, raised by her grandparents on the trap-line until school age. It is through this life experience and training that gives Reneltta the unique cultural and artistic Indigenous lens from which she works from. For over twenty years, Reneltta Arluk has been part of or initiated the creation of Indigenous Theatre across Canada and overseas.
