Artist of the Month at NACC

ARTIST STORY
Sheila Bassi-Kellett is a 40 year resident of the NWT, having lived and worked in Tulit’a and Yellowknife. She is pragmatic in her estimation of her art but is passionate about art as a means to inspire, provoke, inform, unsettle, uplift and ignite reactions of all sorts by those viewing. The expression by the artist engages the viewer and is never simply art for arts sake. It is personal, it is public. “My art helps me explore who I am, in relation to my heritage and my current context. The infinite continuity contained within circular motifs, and especially mandalas, speaks to my Indian heritage as well as the connection to the natural world. My creations help me process where I’m at, while also bringing a sense of fullness, calm, and order.”
