NACC’s history with Golden Seat Plates goes all the way back to the early 1980s. They were originally sold as part of a national fundraising campaign, organized by the Globe and Mail newspaper. These original plates remained adorned on the seats’ arm rests until 2013, when the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre underwent its first major renovation.
These Golden Seat Plates are a way for us to remember the experiences had in the theatre. Before they’re all sold, we’d like to reflect back on some of the stories these plates are honouring…
Dustin Milligan, best known for his roles in Schitt’s Creek, 90210, and Rutherford Falls, is a Canadian actor from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. His first time performing was on the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre stage as a youth. Read more about Dustin’s time in NACC below, and why his Golden Seat Plate means so much to him.
“The first theatre I ever set foot in was NACC, and before setting any of my individual foots in there I was likely carried in all bundled up in a stroller or something. Point is: My exposures to plays and shows and musical acts at NACC planted the seed for me to pursue the arts as a career. It’s where the wonder began, and eventually where my very first performance took place, playing the dumbest of three frogs vying for a princess’ affections. Classic. So, to be able to get a plate and support this space and the arts community which nurtured and supported me on my journey — and in turn support the planting of all the little seeds of wonder for generations to come — is not only an honour, but a clear no-brainer, even for a dumb little frog like me.”
